She plays a woman who ages from 22 to 90-years-old in forthcoming epic film The Butler.

And Oprah Winfrey channelled the 1970s yesterday as she stepped out on set in an afro wig and geometric black and white dress.

Holding hands with a female friend, the talk-show-host turned actress sported hooped earrings and flat black shoes while strolling through the New Orleans set.

The star sported heavy black eye make-up and pale lipstick with the glamorous outfit, before later changing into a more casual grey all-in-one suit with sandals. 

The Butler is Winfrey’s first acting role since she appeared in 1998 civil war movie Beloved.

The film is based on the real life story of White House butler Eugene Allen (Forest Whitaker), a man who worked through eight presidencies, ending with Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, with Winfrey playing his wife.

It’s not clear whether another actress will play the character in her younger years or whether director Lee Daniels will use special effects, but the 59-year-old will certainly be in the role for her later years.

Winfrey has been sharing her multitude of costume changes and different looks with her Twitter followers, posting a photograph of herself looking glammed up in an orange dress and updo on Sunday.
