Following his wife’s wishes, LeBron will retire to make room for his son to shine, really?

LeBron James’ time in the NBA may be farther from over than most think.

The latest campaign for Beats By Dre teased that the 38-year-old Lakers forward may stick around for at least three more seasons.

The ad features LeBron and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland receiving pep talks from the narrators– LeBron’s wife Savannah and Haaland’s father Alfie.

The message of the two-minute video is LeBron is not finished yet, while Haaland, 23, is just getting started.

About three quarters into the video, Savannah encourages her husband to tell people he is playing in the NBA with not one, but both of their sons.

‘Tell them you’re not done until you play with your son,’ Savannah narrates as the camera shows 19-year-old Bronny.

‘Then do that again,’ she reads as the camera shifts to 16-year-old Bryce.

Bronny will enter his first year of college basketball with the USC Trojans this year and will be eligible for the NBA draft in 2024.

Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest in July but LeBron recently revealed his son  is ‘doing extremely well’ after undergoing a ‘successful surgery’

Meanwhile, Bryce is set to graduate from high school in 2025. Under the current NBA rules, Bryce will not be eligible to enter the league until 2026, the same year LeBron turns 42.

Following the Lakers’ exit in the 2023 Western Conference Finals, many questioned if LeBron would return to the court. But over the summer, LeBron made it clear that he will return for his 21st season and fifth with the Lakers.

Aside from being a four-time NBA Champion, Finals MVP, and regular season MVP, LeBron holds the all-time scoring record in the league among many accolades. For him to play with both of his sons at a high level in his forties could be the perfect ending to his historical career.

In 2022, LeBron told Sports Illustrated that he plans to stick around to do just that.

‘I feel like I could play for quite a while. So it’s all up to the body, but more importantly, my mind,’ LeBron said.

‘If my mind can stay sharp and fresh and motivated, then the sky’s not even the limit for me. I can go beyond that. But we shall see.’
